Book 1 L01 2018 is the first outcome stemming from Erki De Vries and Pieter Huybrechts’s research into the spatial possibilities of the book and layout. As an extension of their existing multi-media artwork, combining installation and photography and focusing on questions about spatiality, they take their research one step further in Book 1 L01 2018 and seek a way to create new layers by integrating the medium of the artist book. What possible images and new experiences could the use of this art form bring to their oeuvre? The new medium remains autonomous and is not being used as a representation of the artwork. The artist book will go beyond its boundaries in this new experiment: not just by using the specific spatiality of the book, but also by using the page layout as a material montage in-between film, photo and installation.
