Collective Residency

Period
October-November 2023
Duration
10 days

Applying for a Collective Residency in the Fall of 2023 will be possible in February 2023.

The Collective Residency is a unique opportunity for any kind of collective or duo to develop a contemporary, print-related project – both individually or collaboratively – or work together on common goals/themes. In a professional printmaking workshop and within the context of an international residency and exhibition space, participants are invited to experiment and realize their projects.

Please note: contrary to our five-week Artist Residency program, the Collective Residency program does not include educational training from our staff, nor masterclasses. Prior knowledge of printmaking techniques is thus required. Our team will of course offer basic technical support if necessary.

Each Collective Residency lasts about 10 days. On the first day you are expected in the morning (9am -11:30 am) for a welcome and guided tour. The penultimate day is devoted to completing the residency, cleaning up the studios and lodgings, and there is the opportunity to present the results of the residency. All studios are closed on the last day; check-out is possible until 11am. During your residency we also organize an Artist Talk by a contemporary artist.

Price

€250 per participant* (please mention the number of participants in your application)

This flat rate includes accommodation (per 2 participants we foresee 1 cottage, with two separate bedrooms), bedding and towels, the use of the workshop and basic materials. Paper and specific inks are not provided by the Frans Masereel Centrum. RISO printers, digital printers (EPSON / CANON) and laser cutters, will be charged at production cost. All costs will be billed to the representative of each group and not to individual participants.

How to sign up?

Applying is done digitally and in English via an online application form, available as of February 2023.

Criteria

The Frans Masereel Centrum makes its selection based on:

  • the content and relevancy of your application within contemporary printmaking;
  • the feasibility of your proposal;
  • prior knowledge of printmaking techniques.

The outcome of the selection procedure will be communicated the end of March 2022. If you’re selected, we will inform you about which other group(s) will share the Frans Masereel Centrum’s facilities during your residency. Additionally, we will ask you to finalize your application with additional information:

  • names of the individual participants (if not yet provided);
  • a short intended schedule of the residency time at the Frans Masereel Centrum

General conditions

The invoice for the residency has to be settled within 30 days after the billing date; otherwise the residency will be cancelled automatically.

During the residency, all residents are required to follow our housing guidelines, which you can find here.

The languages of communication at the Frans Masereel Centrum are Dutch and English. We expect you to master the English language sufficiently to be able to converse and collaborate with fellow residents and staff members.
